Privacy Policy
Last updated: 17 August 2026
Argument is a communication app for schools, businesses and other organizations. Members of the same institution can chat in institution-wide and group channels, receive announcements, take part in polls, view schedules and exams, and elect class representatives. We collect only what is necessary to make the app work. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Data we collect
- Account identity — your email address (and, if you sign in with Apple or Google, the identifier and name those providers share with us). Used to create and secure your account.
- Name and profile photo — shown to other members of your institution so they can recognise you. The photo is optional.
- Institution and role — the school or organization you join, your group (e.g. class or department) and your declared role (student, teacher, employee, admin). Used to scope chats and features to your institution.
- Location — used only while you search for your institution on the map during onboarding. We do not track your location in the background.
- Messages and content — text, voice, photo, video and file messages, shared locations and contact cards, announcements, polls and votes, stored so the app can deliver them to your institution's members.
- Device push token — used to deliver notifications (new messages, announcements, join requests).
- Language preference — to show the app in your language (English, Russian, Turkish or Kazakh).
How we use your data
- To connect you with your institution and its members.
- To deliver chats, announcements, polls, schedules, exams and elections.
- To send notifications about activity that concerns you.
- To keep the community safe: reviewing reported content and enforcing our rules.
- To secure your account and prevent abuse.
We do not sell your data and we do not show ads. Your information is used only to operate Argument. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers, and we do not use third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
Who can see your content
Messages you send in a channel are visible to members of that channel (your institution, your group, or the staff room). Your name, role and profile photo are visible to members of your institution. Nothing you post is public on the internet.
Service providers
We host data on Supabase (EU region, Frankfurt) with encryption in transit and at rest. Push notifications are delivered through Expo and Apple/Google notification services. Maps and address search use Mapbox. Sign-in may use Apple or Google. These providers process data only on our behalf.
Data security
Access to data is protected by row-level security rules so that only members of an institution can see that institution's content. We apply industry-standard practices, but no system is perfectly secure — please use a device passcode and keep your sign-in credentials safe.
Content moderation
You can report any message and block any user from inside the app (long-press a message). Blocked users' messages are hidden from you immediately. Reports are reviewed within 24 hours and may lead to content removal or account restrictions.
Your choices and rights
- Edit your name, photo and language at any time from Settings.
- Leave an institution or group to stop receiving its content and notifications.
- Delete your account from Settings › Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, memberships and the content you created. See how to delete your account.
- You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your data by emailing us.
Data retention
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your personal data is removed immediately. We may keep a minimal record where required by law or to prevent abuse (for example, that an account was removed).
Children and students
Argument is used by schools, so some members may be minors. Student accounts are created by the students themselves or with the help of their school; the school decides which groups exist and who joins them. We collect no more data from students than from any other user, and we never use it for advertising or profiling. Parents, guardians or schools may contact us to review or delete a student's data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, notify you inside the app.
